A friend of mine asked me for some Paleo meal ideas
I have been on a paleolithic diet for a few years now. I have been interested in nutrition for about 10 years and have settled on this approach because I like the straight forward philosophy that underpins it which makes making decisions about good and bad food choices easy.
I am not strict Paleo. I do eat theĀ cake , toast and even rice but it is not the mainstay of my diet. I minimize starch, sugar and avoid reduced sugar and reduced fat foods. Unlike the strict Paleo diet I do not try to minimize fat and use it where it will improve flavor.
I avoid the reduced fat and reduced sugar food because they are not good for your health. Reduced fat foods generally contain added sugar (to make up for the lack of fat). Reduced sugar foods generally contain artificial sweetners which are linked with increase in cancers bit also more importantly cause increased appetite and mess up your metabolism.

Since coming back from Vegas I have been on a fairly strict Paleo diet: no grains and dairy, but meat from any source (somehow in reading Robb Wolf’s book, I missed the part about lean meat sources, but I’ve been using the meal plan in his book so it might have been incorporated that way). I have to say it’s the best, easiest “diet” I’ve ever been on.
In three weeks time I’ve lost around 25 lbs., feel better, my clothes are starting to fit better (or worse, as the case may be, but that’s a good thing), and I have more energy. All the things Wolf says you’ll get from living Paleo. The best part is I’ve never been hungry. Maybe the first night I wanted a snack late at night, but otherwise I haven’t had the cravings I’ve had on other diet plans.
My goal is to drop 50 pounds, so I plan on maintaining this strict diet until I reach that before I start introducing certain foods back into my meals (milk being one of them, I do miss my tall glass of cold milk). But it’s otherwise been a great experience and look forward to changing it from a “diet” to a “lifestyle.”
Cheers,
Rich
